Our President
Omar A. Karim is an experienced real estate development and construction professional having successfully led the development and construction of over $500 million in public and private projects over the past 17 years.
Prior to founding Banneker Communities, Mr. Karim led development and construction projects for Banneker Ventures and Bundy Development Corporation. Prior to that, he was an associate with Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP, a leading New York law firm where he counseled private and public investment companies.
Mr. Karim currently serves as Co-Chair of the Washington, DC Regional Advisory Board of College Track, Inc., a college completion program with sites in Ward 8 (DC) and Suitland (MD), and is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, Real Estate Executive Council, and African American Real Estate Professionals of Washington, DC.
He is a former member of the Board of the Washington Area Community Investment Fund and Howard University Board of Trustees. He also served as a member of the Montgomery County, Maryland Affordable Housing Task Force, a Blue-Ribbon task force appointed by the County Executive, to find ways to finance and build more affordable housing in Montgomery County.
Mr. Karim received his J.D. degree from the Howard University School of Law and a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Howard School of Engineering.
